| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (method: “Adal Azamat — 60-second honest start”) |
0–1 min. Greeting + Adal Azamat opening. Teacher: “Good morning, everyone. Today we start with Adal Azamat — a person of honour. Before we open our books, answer one honest question to yourself and then to your partner: ‘What did I do yesterday that I can be proud of?’ 30 seconds each, no writing.” 1–3 min. Rapid challenge with a timer. Teacher shows 4 photos on the board (Olympic National Park: temperate rainforest, Roosevelt elk, Hurricane Ridge, Hoh River) and starts a 60-second timer. Teacher: “You have 60 seconds. In pairs, write down three predictions: Why was this place made a national park? What problem does it face today? What can visitors do to protect it? Number them 1–3. Go!” 3–4 min. Teacher takes 3 quick answers from different pairs (no evaluation yet, only recording key words on the board). 4–5 min. Bridge to the topic. Teacher: “These are your predictions. Today we check them against the real text and correct a text that is full of mistakes. Our unit value is Independence and patriotism — by the end of the lesson you will say why protecting the nature and history of your country is part of being a loyal citizen.” Possible student responses: “Maybe it was made a park because of the big trees.” / “I think tourists leave rubbish.” / “People should not feed the animals.” |
