Teacher: "Good morning, class. Our unit is 'Traditions around the world'. Today, we focus on a foundational tradition of Kazakh thought and literature. When you hear the name 'Abay', what comes to your mind? You have 60 seconds to write down all associations, words, or images. Ready? Go!" (Times 60 seconds). "Now, look at your list. I will ask three of you to share one association and briefly explain it. Who would like to start? Dana, what did you write?" Possible prompts: "Why do you associate him with that?" "Can you elaborate on 'wisdom'?" Teacher: "Excellent. These ideas—poet, wisdom, philosopher—hint at why he is called 'the first classic'. Today, we will read about his life and work to understand this title deeply." |
Students individually create a mind map or list of associations with the name "Abay" (e.g., poet, philosopher, "Words of Edification", book, statue, wisdom, music). Three selected students share one association each and give a short reason (e.g., "I wrote 'book' because we studied his poems last year"). |
Descriptors (no points): • The student generates at least 3 relevant associations. • The student actively listens to peers. • The student provides a coherent reason for a chosen association. |
Whiteboard/markers, student notebooks, timer. AI Tool: Mentimeter or AnswerGarden for real-time collaborative word cloud creation. This visualizes class associations instantly, engaging all learners and setting a shared context. |
