| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement method: Real-life hook + prediction |
Teacher: "Good morning, everyone! Let me tell you a quick true story. Last month, a 12-year-old girl from Kazakhstan named Aruzhan won a language olympiad in London. She speaks three languages. When asked 'What is your country and language?', she said: 'My country is Kazakhstan, my language is Kazakh, but I speak English and Russian too.' She felt proud but also responsible to represent her country fairly." Task: "Now, in pairs, predict: What specific information do you think a 'country and language report' should include? Write down 3 ideas." Teacher walks around, listens to pairs, collects 2–3 responses on the board. Expected student responses: "capital city", "languages spoken", "famous people/heroes", "population", "where it is located". |
Students listen to the story. In pairs, brainstorm and write 3 ideas for a country report. Share ideas with the class. |
