Lesson opening (5 min)
Engagement – “What if…?”

Teacher greets, checks attendance. Asks: “What if a person could eat only one type of food for years? What might happen to their body and mind?”

Writes 2–3 student ideas on the board. Gives positive feedback. Connects to biology: “Today we read about three real cases – pizza, chicken nuggets, chips.”

Homework check (3 min): Students swap previous homework (5 sentences using adjectives+that/infinitive). Teacher monitors, picks 2 examples to share.

  • Respond to “What if…?” in 1–2 sentences (pair share then whole class).
  • Exchange homework with partner, read aloud, correct if needed.

Sentence starter on board: “If someone eats only …, …” Visual prompt: picture of pizza, nuggets, chips.

Descriptors (no points):
• contributes an idea to the discussion
• uses at least one food‑related word
• shows homework completion
