Teacher says: "Listen to my short story about a family party. There are three mistakes in it. Raise your hand when you hear one!"

Story: "Last weekend I went to my cousin’s birthday. In the photo, my aunt is at the back on the left. She has dark hair and a blue dress. My uncle is at the front in the middle — he might be laughing. The little girl with the balloon is my sister. She is serious, and she is funny. My grandmother is on the right with a cake. She could be 60 years old. My father is at the back on the right — he may be clapping."

Mistakes: 1) "aunt" should be "cousin"? (deliberate inconsistency); 2) "serious, and she is funny" — contradictory; 3) "grandmother is on the right" but earlier "at the back"? (position mismatch).

After students spot mistakes, ask: "What is the writer’s attitude? Happy? Proud? How do you know?"

• Raise hand and say the mistake.
• Answer the attitude question (e.g., "The writer is happy because she says 'nice' and 'funny'").
