Teacher: "Good morning, class! Today we are going on a journey. When I say 'South Africa,' what is the first word, image, or idea that pops into your head? You have 60 seconds to write down all your associations. Ready? Go!" (Monitors time). "Time's up. Now, turn to your neighbor (pair up) and share your three most interesting words. Be ready to tell the class one of them." Listens to 3-4 pairs. "Great! We heard 'safari,' 'Nelson Mandela,' 'languages,' 'rainbow nation.' This 'rainbow nation' is key. Today, we will explore the colors of this rainbow through its languages and society." | Students individually create a mind map with the central word "South Africa." They then work in pairs (20 students = 10 pairs) to discuss and select three key associations. Volunteers share one idea with the whole class. |
