| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (Rapid Challenge: "Geo-Lingo Flash") |
Teacher: "Good morning! Today, we're going on a linguistic world tour. Let's warm up! You have 3 minutes. Look at the screen. You will see 5 country flags. For each flag, I want you to quickly write down: 1. The country name in English. 2. The nationality adjective. 3. The official language. Ready? Timer starts now!" (Displays slides with flags of Japan, Brazil, Egypt, Germany, Canada). After time: "Let's check. For Japan...?" (Elicits answers). "Great! This is our topic: Languages, Countries, and Nationalities." | Students work individually, writing their answers on mini-whiteboards or notepads. They participate in the oral check, calling out answers. | Provide a printed handout with a word bank (country names, common nationality suffixes -ish, -an, -ese) for reference during the challenge. Allow oral response instead of written if needed. | Descriptors: The student attempts to identify the country and provides at least one related word (nationality or language). Note: No points. |
PPT slides with flags. Timer. Mini-whiteboards/markers or notepads. Handout with word bank for SEN. |
