Storytelling with a deliberate mistake/trigger “Listen to my short story. I went to the supermarket yesterday. I have bought some apples, milk and bread. Then I met my friend – she has never tried Korean rice cakes! I have already paid and we talked for ten minutes. Wait… is everything correct? Did I make a mistake with the tense?” Teacher elicits: “I went” (past simple) vs “I have bought” (present perfect). Trigger: use of present perfect with a definite past time (yesterday) is wrong. Students spot the error. Teacher praises and clarifies: present perfect ≠ specific past time. Value link: “Today we work diligently – finish every task, check your own work.” |
• Listen actively • Raise hand to point out the mistake • Say why “yesterday” doesn’t match present perfect • Offer correction (I bought apples yesterday / I have bought apples – no time) |
Descriptors only, no points • Spots the tense mismatch • Explains the rule (no specific past time with present perfect) • Shows readiness to work |
• Whiteboard / slide with story • markers |
