| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement: storytelling with a deliberate mistake |
Story: “Yesterday I visited two cities: Astana and Almaty. Astana is more newer than Almaty, but Almaty has the most beautifulest mountains. I think Almaty is more better for nature. But my friend said: ‘No, Astana has the most big boulevard.’ What do you think – is my English perfect?” Teacher asks: “Can you spot the mistake? How many errors did you hear?” (pairs discuss 30 sec). Teacher elicits corrections: newer (not more newer), most beautiful (not beautifulest), better (not more better), the biggest (not most big). Teacher introduces the lesson goal: “Today we become experts in comparing – we will learn to use comparative and superlative adjectives correctly, and even talk about our Constitution.” |
