| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (Provocative question & voting) |
Teacher: "Good morning! Let's start with a quick poll. I have a question for you: Is it a rule or a scientific fact? 'If you don't drink water, you get thirsty.' Show me thumbs up for 'Rule', thumbs down for 'Scientific Fact'. (Waits 10 sec). Now, discuss with your elbow partner for 30 seconds: Why did you vote that way?"
Teacher facilitates a brief 1-minute debrief, calling on 2-3 pairs. "So, many of you said it's a fact. That's right! It describes a general truth. In English, we have a specific grammar for such truths. Today we'll learn it to talk about healthy habits." |
Students vote individually. Then, in pairs (16 students = 8 pairs), they discuss their reasoning. Selected students share their ideas with the class (e.g., "It's a fact because it always happens to everyone"). | Teacher provides the question in written form on the board/slide. Allows partner to read the question aloud. Accepts short, one-word justifications. | Descriptors (no points):
