| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (mind map) |
Teacher says: "Let's start with a mind map. On your mini-whiteboard, write the word 'HERO' in the centre and add at least 3 words or short phrases that come to mind. You have 60 seconds." After 1 minute, teacher asks: "Who can share one association? Why did you write it?" Teacher selects 3 students to elaborate. Possible questions: "What makes a person a hero?" "Can an ordinary person be a hero?" Script (teacher): "Look at your mind map. I see 'brave', 'strong', 'helps others'. Tell me more, Aruzhan." Teacher scaffolds: "What hero do you know from Kazakhstan?" |
Students draw a mind map with 'HERO' and add words (e.g., brave, strong, kind, saves people, national). Three students share and explain their associations: "I wrote brave because a hero is not afraid." Others listen and can add one more idea if they want. |
Assessment (descriptors only – no points): • Participates in mind map with at least 3 words. • Gives a short explanation when asked. • Shows respect while others speak. |
Mini-whiteboards, markers, timer, board. |
