| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (method: provocative question with quick voting) |
Teacher says: "Good morning, class! Let’s start with a fun question. Look at the board: I show a picture of a globe with numbers. 'If you could visit any country, which number from 1 to 20 would you choose and why?' I will give you 30 seconds to think, then I will ask you to raise your hand for your favourite number. After voting, I will ask 2-3 students to explain their choice briefly." Teacher shows a slide with numbers 1-20 and country names (e.g., 1-UK, 2-USA, 3-Canada, etc.) but keeps it simple. Teacher facilitates voting: "Raise your hand if you choose number 5? Number 10?" Debrief: "Interesting! Many chose number 10 because it’s a big number. Now, let’s see how we can use these numbers to talk about places." |
Students look at the board, think individually for 30 seconds, then raise hands when their number is called. 2-3 students share their reason, e.g., "I choose number 7 because I like Canada." Others listen. |
