| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (Storytelling with a mistake) |
Teacher: "Good morning, class! Today, we are starting a fun project about animals. First, I want to tell you a short story about my favourite animal. Listen carefully. 'My favourite animal is a penguin. It is big and green. It lives in the hot desert. It can fly very high. I like it because it is funny.'" (Pause). "Did you hear anything strange in my story? Turn to your partner and discuss for 1 minute."
Teacher (after discussion): "Who can tell me what was wrong? Yes, Aliya?" (Listens to answers). "Excellent! Penguins are not green, they don't live in the desert, and they cannot fly. Well done for spotting the mistakes! This shows we need to use true facts in our project. Today, you will create a true and beautiful project about your favourite animal." |
Students listen attentively to the story. They discuss in pairs (9 students = 4 pairs + 1 trio) to identify the deliberate mistakes (colour, habitat, ability). Volunteers share their findings with the whole class. | Descriptors: The student actively listens. The student participates in pair discussion, identifying at least one mistake. The student volunteers an answer. No points. |
Whiteboard/marker. AI Tool: A text-to-speech generator (e.g., NaturalReader) could be used to pre-record the story with the mistakes, playing it for students to enhance listening engagement. |
