Lesson opening (5 min)
Engagement (Storytelling with a trigger)
Teacher: "Good morning, class. Before we begin, I want to share a short story. Listen carefully. 'In 1991, Kazakhstan gained its independence. It was a quiet day with little celebration. The people were unsure about their future and showed little interest in building a new nation.' What do you think? Does this story feel complete or accurate?"

Expected student reactions: Students may look confused, disagree, or mention celebrations, pride, or the Day of the Republic.

Teacher: "Exactly. There might be a deliberate mistake or a missing perspective here. Today, we will explore how history is written and interpreted. Our topic is 'Writing Kazakhstan’s history'. Your task is to be critical listeners and thoughtful writers."
Students listen to the story. They identify the potential mistake/trigger (the depiction of indifference). They share initial reactions and questions. Descriptors: The student actively listens and identifies a discrepancy or implied bias in the narrative.
No points.
Whiteboard/Marker, Teacher's script. AI Tool: Audio recording of the story generated by an AI text-to-speech service (e.g., ElevenLabs) to present the narrative, allowing students to focus on listening for implied meaning.
