Lesson goal
  1. By the end of the lesson, students will be able to extract specific information and infer the author's tone from a complex text about the Silk Road by completing comprehension tasks (ex. 1, 2, 5 p.122).
  2. Students will demonstrate collaborative research and creative presentation skills by discussing the cultural exchange along the Silk Road (ex.3 p.122) and initiating a project on a national costume (ex.2 p.122).
  3. Students will apply critical and innovative thinking to propose a modern, entrepreneurial idea inspired by the Silk Road's legacy of exchange.

Engagement (Rapid Challenge)		 Teacher: "Good morning! Today, we are going on a journey. I will show you three images on the screen for 30 seconds each. Your challenge is to guess the single, famous historical network that connects them all. Ready? (Show images: 1) A roll of silk fabric, 2) A spice market, 3) A caravan of camels). Time starts now!"

After 90 seconds: "Time's up! Turn to your neighbor and share your guess in one sentence."

Elicit answers: "So, what's the connecting idea? (Student: The Silk Road). Exactly! Today's topic is 'The Silk Road'. Let's see how this ancient network is connected to our unit 'Clothes' Journeys'." 		Students observe the images quickly. They think individually and then share their hypothesis with a partner. Volunteers share their answers with the class. Descriptors:
  • Actively observes visual prompts.
  • Makes a logical connection between the images.
  • Engages in peer discussion to share ideas.
