Engagement (method: “What if…?”)

Teacher: “Good morning, Grade 11! Look at these pictures (Mini Cooper, Anglepoise lamp, red telephone box). What do they have in common? They are all British design classics. Now, imagine: What if you were asked to redesign one of these classics to make it fairer for everyone and more environmentally responsible? For example, a Mini that runs on solar panels? Or a lamp made from recycled ocean plastic? Talk to your partner for 1 minute. Share your most creative idea.”

Possible student responses: “A phone box with a charging station for homeless people.” / “A Mini that can carry 6 people to reduce cars.” / “A lamp that turns off when nobody is in the room to save energy.”

Teacher: “Excellent! You already used compound nouns like solar panel, phone box, charging station. Today we will learn more compound nouns and listen to real stories about British design classics.”
