| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (Mind Map & Discussion) |
Teacher: "Good morning, class. Today is your summative assessment where you will showcase your writing skills. To warm up, I want you to think about the unit theme: 'Work and Inventions'. On your mini-whiteboards or a sheet of paper, you have 1 minute to create a quick mind map of all the words, ideas, or images that come to your mind when you hear this phrase. Ready? Go!" (Times 1 minute). "Time's up. Now, look at your map. I will randomly call on three of you to share one association each and briefly explain why you chose it. For example, Aliya, what's one word from your map?" Possible prompts: "Why did you choose 'innovation'?" "How does 'hard work' connect to inventions?" |
Students individually create a mind map, writing down associated words (e.g., creativity, scientist, technology, problem-solving, future, Kazakh inventors, labor). Three selected students share one association each and give a brief explanation (e.g., "I wrote 'robot' because I think future work will involve AI inventions."). |
Descriptors (no points): • The student generates at least 3 relevant associations related to work and/or inventions. • The student can verbally explain the connection of at least one chosen association. |
Mini-whiteboards or blank paper, markers, timer. AI Tool: Mentimeter or AnswerGarden for real-time collaborative word cloud creation. The teacher can project the live cloud to validate and expand associations, visually engaging all learners. |
