| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (Real-life case hook) |
Teacher: "Good morning, class. I want to start with a short news headline. (Shows slide) 'Local School Sports Day Canceled Due to Widespread Flu Among Students.' What do you think happened? Turn to your partner and predict: Why was the event canceled? What could the students or school have done differently?"
After 2 minutes: "Let's hear some predictions. Aizhan, what did you and your partner discuss?" Possible Student Response: "We think many students were sick. Maybe they didn't dress warmly or didn't wash their hands." Teacher: "Interesting. So, our health choices can affect not just us, but whole events and other people. Today, we'll learn how to talk about health issues and discuss what it means to be responsible for our health." |
Students listen to the hook.
In pairs, they discuss and predict the reasons behind the news. Volunteers share their predictions with the class. |
Descriptors:

Slide with news headline.
Projector/Screen. AI Tool Suggestion: Use a tool like Canva's AI text-to-image or Bing Image Creator to generate a realistic image of a canceled sports event notice to make the hook more visually engaging. |
