VARIANT 1
LISTENING
Task 1. Listen to the dialogue between Tina and Max. You will hear it twice. Answer the questions (1-5).
Transcript (for teacher):
Tina: Hey, Max, how’s your Spanish going?
Max: It’s OK, but learning a language takes so long. I can only order food! It’s hard to study with my little brother in the room. Maybe I should go to a language school.
Tina: Learning a second language isn’t like learning your first as a baby. That took years too. Don’t think about the time — think about the benefits.
Max: Like what?
Tina: People who speak two languages concentrate better. I get distracted easily, so maybe Spanish would help me focus.
Max: Any other advantages?
Tina: Yes! Scientists found that learning languages can increase brain activity and even make part of the brain larger. It may also slow down brain aging. Older bilingual people often have more efficient brains.
Max: That’s amazing. I’ll try harder tonight.
Tina: Good idea! It’ll do your brain good.
