| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (method: provocative question + quick vote) |
Teacher: “Good morning, Grade 6! Look at this picture (slide: a busy street with people, cars, a cat crossing the road). Quick question: Who painted this picture? – Nobody! It’s a photo. But what if I say: The cat was carried across the street by a girl. Why do I say was carried and not ‘carried’? Let’s vote: is the focus on the cat or on the girl? Raise hand for cat (passive) / for girl (active).” Debrief: “Most of you chose cat – exactly! In passive voice the object becomes important. Today we learn how to build passive and use movement prepositions.” (Teacher shows slide with two example sentences: “The ball rolled into the goal.” / “The ball was rolled into the goal by the player.”) |
|
Descriptors (no points): • Participates in voting and gives a short opinion. • Shows initial awareness of passive vs active. |
Slide 1 (busy street photo), slide 2 (active vs passive example), whiteboard, markers. |
