| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (Mind Map & Discussion) |
Teacher: "Good morning, class! Today's topic is 'On the phone'. Let's start with a quick mind map. You have 1 minute. In your notebooks, write 'PHONE' in the center and draw branches. Write all the English words, phrases, or situations you associate with using a phone. Ready? Go!" (Times 1 minute). "Stop. Now, look at your map. I will ask three of you to share one interesting association and explain it. For example, 'text message' – because I text my friends every day. Who would like to start? Aruzhan, what's on your map?" Possible prompts: "Why did you choose that word?" "Can you use it in a short sentence?" Transition: "Excellent ideas! Today we will build on these to learn specific vocabulary and how to have effective phone conversations." |
Students individually create a mind map, brainstorming associations (e.g., call, ringtone, hello, WhatsApp, busy, voicemail). Three selected students share and explain one association each. Others listen actively. |
