| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (What if...?) |
Teacher: "Good morning! Today, we're diving into history and science. I have a 'What if...?' question for you: What if the space race had never happened? How would our world be different today? Think for 30 seconds. Now, share your ideas with your elbow partner for one minute." Teacher circulates, listens to ideas, then asks 2-3 pairs to share with the whole class. Possible prompts: "No satellites? No GPS? Different political relations?" Teacher: "Interesting ideas! To understand what did happen, we will explore 'The Space Race'. Our goals today are to read about it, discuss key events, and form our own arguments." |
Students think individually, then discuss the question in pairs (18 students = 9 pairs). They share ideas like: "Maybe no smartphones," "Science would be slower," "The Cold War might have been different." | For students with attention/processing needs, the teacher provides the "What if..." question written on a card with 2-3 picture prompts (e.g., satellite, moon, globe). The teacher can also pre-assign a thinking partner. | Descriptors only, no points. • The student participates in the pair discussion. • The student shares or listens to at least one idea about the hypothetical scenario. |
Projector/screen, slide with "What if..." question and lesson goals. Timer. Prepared card with question and visuals for SEN. |
