| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (Provocative question & voting) |
Teacher: "Good morning, everyone! Let's start with a quick question. Imagine our town has a magic budget to build ONE new facility. Which would you choose and why? A) A huge modern sports complex, B) A free creative arts and leisure centre for all ages, C) A citizen volunteer hub for community projects. Don't say it out loud yet! I'll show the options. You have 10 seconds to think. Now, vote by raising your hand for A, B, or C." (Counts votes). "Interesting! Now, in 30 seconds, turn to your neighbour and share your one main reason. Go!" (After 30 sec). "Okay, who heard a reason they found surprising or convincing? One quick share." (Listens to 1-2 students). "Great ideas. This connects directly to our topic today: being active citizens and thinking about leisure and sport in our own community. Our goals are to give useful feedback and write a connected paragraph about these ideas." | Students listen to the question, think individually, vote by raising hands, then engage in a 30-second pair discussion, sharing their choice and reason. One or two students volunteer to share a peer's reason with the class. | Teacher shows written options (A, B, C) on board/screen. For a student with attention/processing needs, the teacher can quietly repeat the options one-on-one before the vote. | Descriptors:
