| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement – storytelling with a deliberate mistake |
Teacher says: “Listen to a short story. I will tell you about a girl named Aya who felt shy. Find the mistake in my story — something that is NOT true according to the text we will read.” Story (teacher reads aloud): “Aya’s hands shake when she meets new people. She reads the text ‘5 ways to shake off shyness’. She learns that the best way is to avoid difficult situations and never make small talk. She decides to stay silent and not join any club. Is that good advice?” Prompt: “What is wrong with my advice? Turn to your partner and discuss for 30 seconds.” (Pair talk) Teacher elicits: “The text says take small steps, join activities, practise eye contact – not avoid. The mistake: ‘avoid difficult situations’ is the opposite of the text.” |
|
Descriptors (no points): • Recognises the contradiction between “avoid” and the text’s message. • Participates in pair discussion. • Gives a short verbal response. |
