| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (Mind map & discussion) |
Teacher: "Good morning, class! Today's topic is 'People and Places'. Let's start with a quick mind map. I will write the word 'PLACE' in the center of the board. You have 1 minute to think: What words come to your mind when you hear 'place'? Think about adjectives, types of places, what people do there. Ready? Go!" (Teacher writes the word on the board). After 1 minute: "Time's up. Who wants to share? (Teacher writes 5-7 student suggestions around the word, e.g., city, beautiful, home, school, noisy). Great! Now, let's look at three of these words: 'city', 'beautiful', 'home'. Why did you choose 'city'? What kind of people live in a city? What makes a place 'beautiful'? Is 'home' a place or a feeling? Let's discuss briefly." | Students think individually for 1 minute. Volunteers raise hands and share their word associations (e.g., park, big, quiet, market). Students participate in a brief guided discussion, answering the teacher's questions about the selected words. | For a student with attention/processing difficulties, the teacher can provide a small printed card with 3-4 picture prompts (house, park, shop) to help generate ideas. The teacher can also call the student's name gently to invite contribution after the group discussion. | Descriptors: The student contributes at least one relevant word to the mind map or participates in the discussion by answering a question. (no points) | Whiteboard/Interactive board, markers. AI Tool: Mentimeter or AnswerGarden for a live, collaborative word cloud. The teacher can project the growing word cloud in real-time as students submit words from their devices or via the teacher's input, making the activity visually engaging and inclusive. |
