| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (What if...? question) |
Teacher: "Good morning, explorers! Today, we are all astronauts preparing for a special mission. I have one big question for you: What if you were the captain of the first spaceship to visit a new planet? What is the first thing you would need to know before you go? Think for 30 seconds, then share your ideas with your shoulder partner."
Teacher circulates, listens to ideas, then asks 2-3 pairs to share with the class. Writes key question words from their answers on the board (e.g., What is there? Where is it? How many moons? Who lives there?). Teacher: "Excellent ideas! To plan a successful journey, we need to ask the right questions and know the rules. Today, we will learn the language of space explorers: how to ask perfect questions and talk about mission rules." |
Students think individually about the "What if..." scenario. They discuss their initial thoughts with a partner. Volunteers share their partner's or their own idea with the whole class. Possible responses: "I need to know what the planet is made of." "Where is the water?" "How big is it?" "Who can I take with me?" |
Descriptors (no points):

Whiteboard/markers, timer. AI Tool Suggestion: An AI image generator (e.g., Midjourney, DALL-E) to display a unique, imagined planet on the interactive board based on a prompt like "alien planet with two suns and purple forests." This visual hook stimulates curiosity and provides a concrete context for the "What if" question. |
