Engagement (storytelling + mistake)

Teacher script:

"Good morning! Let me tell you a short story about my morning. Yesterday I woke up, I used my candle to make tea, then I turned on the tap but no water came – I used my matches to check the pipe! Then I sat down and studied with my light bulb."

"Wait – there are 3 silly mistakes in my story. Can you spot them? Think about which objects I used wrongly."

Pause, let learner think. Elicit answers: candle (you don’t make tea with a candle, you use a kettle/heater), matches (not for checking pipes), light bulb (to study you need a lamp, not a bulb alone).

Lead to question: "Which object do you think is MOST important in a home? Let’s compare ideas."

Differentiation: only 1 learner → individual response, teacher encourages justification.

  • Listens to teacher’s story.
  • Identifies 3 deliberate mistakes (candle, matches, light bulb used incorrectly).
  • Shares one everyday object they consider most important and gives a reason.

In a class of 1, the student actively responds and receives immediate feedback.

Descriptors (no points):
• Spots at least 2 out of 3 mistakes.
• Expresses opinion using a complete sentence (e.g., "I think a heater is important because…").
• Listens to teacher’s explanation and shows respect for differing view.
  • Board / slide with vocabulary images (fan, light bulb, tap, switch, matches, remote control, plug, candle, heater, charger).
  • AI tool: Use ChatGPT (text generation) to create 2–3 alternative stories with mistakes for extra practice; Canva AI to show everyday objects collage.
