| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (method: provocative question + quick vote) |
Teacher says: “Good morning, everyone! Imagine you wake up on the first day of spring – the snow is melting, the sun is shining, and you hear music and laughter outside. What do you think people are celebrating? (Pause) I want you to think about the word ‘new beginning’. Now, I’ll show you three images: (shows slide with three pictures: 1) a traditional Kazakh dastarkhan with nauryz-kozhe, 2) a spring festival in Japan – Hanami, 3) a spring festival in India – Holi). Look at each one. Which image do you think represents Nauryz? Quick vote: Raise one finger for picture 1, two fingers for picture 2, three fingers for picture 3. (Counts votes and shows the correct answer – picture 1.) Debrief: “Great! You already know that Nauryz is a spring celebration. Today we will explore its traditions, symbols, and how it connects to our culture. By the end of the lesson, you will be able to explain Nauryz to a friend who has never heard of it.” |
Students look at the images, think, and participate in the vote by raising fingers. They listen to the debrief and become curious about the lesson topic. |
Descriptors (no points): • Actively participates in the vote. • Shows engagement and curiosity. • Can name at least one Nauryz element from prior knowledge. |
