| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (What if...? question) |
Teacher: "Good morning! Imagine you are on a fantastic holiday. You see a market stall selling beautiful, unique souvenirs: bracelets made from shiny shells, necklaces from animal teeth, and carved figures from dark wood. They are much cheaper than in other shops. What if you really wanted to buy one as a special memory? Think for 30 seconds, then share your initial thought with the class. I will write your ideas on the board."
Possible prompts: "Would you buy it? Why or why not? What questions might you ask the seller?" Script: "Okay, let's hear your ideas. Aruzhan, what's your first thought?" [Listens and writes key words like "buy", "ask", "cheap", "worried", "special" on board]. "Interesting. Many of you mentioned being unsure. Today, we will explore this dilemma and learn about 'illegal souvenirs'." |
Students listen to the scenario. They think individually, then volunteer answers. Possible responses: "I would buy it because it's beautiful and cheap." / "I would ask where it comes from." / "I wouldn't buy it because it might be from an endangered animal." | Provide the "What if" question in written form on a card or screen. Use visuals (pictures of souvenirs) to support understanding. Allow for non-verbal responses (thumbs up/down). | Descriptors:
