  • 10.5.2 - use a wide variety of vocabulary corresponding to the topic, genre, grammatically correctly spelled out;
  • 10.6.1 - use a variety of abstract compound nouns and complex noun phrases on a range of familiar general and curricular topics, and some unfamiliar general and curricular topics.
Lesson goal
  • By the end of the lesson, students will be able to introduce themselves and a partner using subject pronouns (I, you, he, she, etc.) and basic personal information (name, day of the week, a number) with grammatical accuracy.
  • Students will demonstrate comprehension of the main points in a short introductory text and an audio dialogue by extracting key information (names, numbers, days).
  • Students will construct and present a simple 3-sentence argument about the importance of a personal or national value (e.g., family, language, independence) using at least one compound noun or complex noun phrase.

Engagement (Mind Map)		 Teacher: "Good morning, class! Welcome to our first English lesson of Grade 10. Let's start with a quick activity. I want you to think about the word 'WELCOME'. What comes to your mind? Let's create a mind map on the board. I'll start: 'Hello'." (Writes 'WELCOME' in the center of the board and 'Hello' as a branch). "Now, tell me your associations. Any words, feelings, or ideas?"

Possible student responses: "Friends", "New", "School", "Name", "Introduce".

Teacher writes 5-7 associations on the board. "Great! Now, let's discuss three of these. Why did you choose 'New'? What does 'Introduce' mean in our context today?"

Script: "So, 'New' could mean new classmates, new topics. 'Introduce' means to tell someone your name. And 'School' is our common place. Perfect! Today's lesson is all about welcoming each other, introducing ourselves, and learning some basics to start our journey." 		Students volunteer words associated with "WELCOME". They listen to peers and the teacher's explanation. They participate in a brief discussion about the selected words (New, Introduce, School). Descriptors:
  • Student contributes at least one relevant word to the mind map.
  • Student actively listens to peers' contributions.
  • Student participates in the discussion by providing a simple reason or connection.
