| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (method: Rapid challenge with timer – “Geo‑quick‑draw”) |
Teacher script: “Good morning, explorers! Let’s warm up your geography reflexes. In 90 seconds, with your pair (elbow partner), list as many amazing natural places as you can — but you must alternate: one says a place, the other paraphrases it in one sentence. Example: ‘Grand Canyon.’ → ‘A huge colourful canyon carved by the Colorado River.’ I’ll set the timer. Ready? Go!” After 90 sec: “Now share one place and its paraphrase with the class. Listen for paraphrasing — we’ll need that skill today.” Teacher models paraphrase if needed: “The Sahara desert is expanding.” → “The desert in North Africa is growing larger.” |
• In pairs (7 pairs) quickly brainstorm places; each student takes turns naming / paraphrasing. • Some pairs share aloud (2–3 examples). • Listen to teacher modelling paraphrase. |
Descriptors (no points): • Contributes at least 2 place‑paraphrase pairs. • Uses paraphrase (e.g. changes vocabulary or sentence structure). • Shows cooperation: turn‑taking and active listening. |
• Timer (phone / online stopwatch) • Whiteboard for quick notes • Pairs formed spontaneously (class of 14 → 7 pairs) |
