| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (What if...? question) |
Teacher: "Good morning, class! Let's start with a 'What if...?' question. What if all the flowers in the world suddenly could talk? What do you think they might say? Or, what if a new, never-before-seen flower was discovered in the mountains of Kazakhstan? What might it look like and be called? Think for 30 seconds." Teacher listens to 3-4 student ideas, encourages creativity, and links to the topic. "Great ideas! Flowers are amazing parts of our natural world. Today, we're going to learn the specific vocabulary to talk about them confidently." |
Students listen to the question. They think individually, then volunteer answers. Possible responses: "They might complain about the weather!", "They could sing songs.", "The new flower might be blue and sparkly, called 'Sky Diamond'." | Provide the "What if" question in written form on the board/slide. Allow for non-verbal responses (drawing a quick sketch, pointing). Use visual prompts (pictures of talking flowers). | Descriptors: Student participates by sharing an imaginative idea or listening actively to peers. No points. |
Projector/Whiteboard. Slide with the "What if..." question and supportive images. |
