| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (Provocative question & vote) |
Teacher: "Good morning! I want you to think about this: 'Is a place more beautiful if it is difficult for tourists to reach?' Don't say your answer out loud yet. I'll give you three options. Show me with your fingers: 1 finger for 'Yes, definitely', 2 fingers for 'It depends', 3 fingers for 'No, accessibility doesn't affect beauty'. Ready? 3, 2, 1, show!" Teacher quickly scans the room to see the distribution. "Interesting! I see a mix. Now, in 30 seconds, turn to your neighbor and share one quick reason for your choice." After 30 sec: "Okay, let's hear a couple of reasons. [Calls on 2-3 students]. Thank you! These are great perspectives. This connects directly to our topic today: Places of Natural Beauty. We'll explore different views and even create our own." |
Students listen to the question. They vote silently using their fingers. They then engage in a brief pair discussion, sharing their perspective. Some students volunteer to share their or their partner's reason with the whole class. | Teacher provides the question and options visually on the board/slide. Allows for a non-verbal response (fingers). Pairs student with a supportive peer for discussion. |
