  • 11.1.3 - show respect for different points of view;
  • 11.1.7 - build and defend a logical argument while speaking or writing;
  • 11.3.2 - ask and answer high-order open-ended questions using appropriate syntax and vocabulary on a number of general and curricular topics, including some unfamiliar topics;
  • 11.6.14 - use a growing variety of more complex prepositional phrases, including those related to concessions and respect, use a variety of compound verbs of various syntactic types on a wide variety of general and curricular topics;
  • 11.6.13 - use a variety of dependent prepositions accompanying less common nouns, adjectives and verbs on a wide variety of general and curricular topics;
Lesson goal
  1. By the end of the lesson, students will be able to accurately use and explain at least 5 new topic-related vocabulary items (idioms, phrasal verbs, dependent prepositions) from the textbook exercises in speaking and writing tasks.
  2. Students will demonstrate the ability to construct and present a logical argument on a topic related to technological change, using high-order questions and showing respect for opposing viewpoints in pair/group discussions.
  3. Students will apply knowledge of word formation and complex prepositional phrases to complete tiered grammar tasks, showing an understanding of their function in context.

Engagement (Mind map & discussion)		 T: "Good morning! Our topic today is 'Technological Change'. Let's start with a 1-minute mind map. On your mini-whiteboards or a piece of paper, write down all words, phrases, or ideas you associate with this topic. Ready? Go! (After 1 min) Time's up. Now, look at your map. Choose the three most interesting or surprising associations for you. In pairs, discuss: Why did you choose these? What do they tell us about technology's role in society?" I will monitor and then ask 2-3 pairs to share one idea with the class. Students create an individual mind map. They then work in pairs, discussing their selected associations. Volunteers share their ideas with the whole class. Descriptors (no points):
  • Generates at least 5 relevant associations.
  • Actively participates in pair discussion, explaining choices.
  • Listens respectfully to peers' ideas.
 Mini-whiteboards/markers, notebooks, pens, timer. AI Tool: Mentimeter or AnswerGarden for real-time collaborative word cloud creation to visualize class associations.
