Figure 1: Our Solar System
The Solar System
Our Solar System is a wonderful place. It has one star, the Sun. Eight planets move around the Sun. The planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Earth is our home. It is the third planet from the Sun. Earth has water and air. This helps plants, animals, and people to live. Mars is called the Red Planet. Scientists send robots to Mars to learn about it. Jupiter is the biggest planet. It has a big red spot, which is a giant storm.
There are also smaller objects like asteroids and comets. Asteroids are rocky objects. They are mostly found between Mars and Jupiter. Comets are like dirty snowballs. They have long tails when they come near the Sun.
Exploring space is exciting. It helps us understand our planet Earth better.
