Kazakh national food is a reflection of the country's nomadic history and culture. The most famous dish is beshbarmak, which means "five fingers" because it is traditionally eaten with hands. It consists of boiled meat (usually horse meat or mutton) and large noodles, served with a broth called "sorpa". Another popular dish is baursak – small, deep-fried dough balls that are often served with tea. Kumys (fermented mare's milk) and shubat (fermented camel's milk) are traditional dairy drinks. They are not only tasty but also very healthy. Meals are often shared from a large common dish, which shows the importance of hospitality and community in Kazakh culture.
