Текст для работы: "What is Citizenship?"
Citizenship is the legal status of being a member of a particular country. It comes with both rights and responsibilities. Key rights often include the right to vote, the right to work, and the right to receive protection from the state. Key responsibilities often include obeying the law, paying taxes, and serving on a jury when called.
There are two main ways to acquire citizenship: by birth (jus soli, meaning "right of the soil") or by naturalization (a legal process for immigrants). Being a good citizen goes beyond the law. It involves active participation in community life, showing respect for others, and contributing to the common good. In a globalized world, some people also talk about the idea of "global citizenship," which emphasizes our responsibilities to all people and the planet, not just our own nation.
The concept has evolved. In ancient Athens, only free men could be citizens. Today, most democracies aim for inclusive citizenship. However, debates continue about topics like dual citizenship, the rights of non-citizen residents, and what it truly means to be an active member of society.
