Extreme weather: truth or legend?
Tornadoes, blizzards, and heatwaves are among the most dangerous weather events. A tornado is a violent rotating column of air that touches the ground – its vortex can reach 500 km/h. In the USA, tornadoes cause severe damage every spring. In contrast, a blizzard is a severe snowstorm with strong winds and black ice on roads. Visibility drops to near zero. Meanwhile, a heatwave is a long period of extremely hot weather, often with drought. In Europe, the 2003 heatwave led to thousands of deaths. Scientists agree that climate change makes these events more frequent. Understanding the difference between a watch (possible) and a warning (happening now) can save lives.
