Abai Kunanbaev
Abai Kunanbaev was a great Kazakh poet, composer, and philosopher. He was born in 1845 in the Semey region. His father, Kunanbai, was a wealthy clan leader. Abai received his early education at home. Later, he studied at a madrasah. Abai loved knowledge and languages. He learned Arabic, Persian, and Russian. He translated works of great writers like Pushkin and Goethe into Kazakh. He also wrote many beautiful poems and songs. His most famous work is "The Book of Words" (Kara Sozder). Abai died in 1904. Today, people in Kazakhstan and around the world remember and respect him.
