The Fisherman and the Fish

Once, an old fisherman lived with his wife in a small hut by the sea. One day, he caught a magical golden fish. The fish could talk! It said, "Please, let me go. I will grant you a wish." The kind fisherman let the fish go without asking for anything. When he told his wife, she was angry. "Go back and ask for a new washtub!" she demanded. The fisherman went. The fish granted the wish. But the wife wanted more: a big house, then to be a noblewoman, then a queen, and finally, the mistress of the sea. Each time, the fisherman went to the sea. The water became darker and stormier. For the last wish, the fish said nothing and swam away. When the fisherman returned home, he found his old hut and his wife with the old washtub again.

This is a famous Russian fairy tale written by Alexander Pushkin. It teaches us about being greedy and unhappy with what we have.
