📝 Complete 5 tasks. Pay special attention to determiners (a, an, the, some, any, many, this, these, etc.). Read carefully.
📖 Task 1 · Reading analysis (explicit & implied) 2 points
Read the diary extract “A year in Seoul: culture shock diary” (provided below). Then answer two questions.
“A year in Seoul: culture shock diary” (excerpt)
“During the first month, everything felt overwhelming. The language barrier was a real struggle — I couldn’t read the signs, and many people spoke little English. I missed the comfort of home. However, by the third month I started to notice small wins: I learned some Korean phrases, and this gave me confidence. Adaptation doesn’t happen overnight; it’s a gradual process of accepting differences.”
- Explicit argument: What does the writer explicitly say about the language barrier? (write 1–2 sentences)
- Implied message: What implied idea about adaptation can you notice? (explain in 1–2 sentences)
🔍 Task 2 · Determiner hunt 2 points
In the same diary excerpt, find at least 6 determiners (articles, quantifiers, demonstratives). List them below and classify each type.
